So many questions arise when trying to measure heat as a health exposure – let CACHE help!  

Heat is one of the most frequently examined environmental influences on population health, and a wide variety of data sources exist to measure exposure. This CACHE sponsored workshop provides an overview of heat measures and examples of two, including hands-on experience with code available via the CACHE website. Participants will generate temperature exposure measures from publicly available data, as well as wet bulb temperatures. The Universal Thermal Climate Index data will also be demonstrated and linked to population data. 

Climate change is influencing human health and is particularly challenging for older adults. HRS holds tremendous potential to facilitate important research on aging-health-environment. This 1.5-day workshop introduced the HRS and reviewed examples of environmental data that can be integrated for this research.

Interested in integrating climate and disaster data into demographic research? This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to the SHELDUS database (Spatial Hazard Events and Losses Database for the U.S.), demonstrating how to link it with population and health datasets across various spatial scales. Topics include temporal linking, customizing disaster exposure data, and considerations for restricted-access use. All experience levels welcome! Meeting will be free for PAA attendees.
